Brickyard 2.0 – Office Space

Wanted: Programmers, Developers, Internet Consultants, Marketers, Solopreneurs or a small company looking to rent a desk or two at 306 South Main – Brickyard 2.0.
The Deal: We have been at The Brickyard for two years now. We just signed on for another year and we have 3 open desks to rent. You get a nice desk for your personal use, your own locker, use of conference room, access to shared coffee, and internet all for $280 per month (1 year lease).

I can tell you from experience having an office on Main Street will do wonders for your productivity and ability to win new business. Not to mention you will be joined by other small business owners who enjoy working in the same space, and often collaborate on projects.

It’s important that you work more on your computer than the phone. If you travel to your client’s offices for meetings that works too. We have a conference room you can use, but the desk you will be renting is in an open space and is not conducive to frequent phone calls. We keep it like this to respect everyone’s need for a quiet workplace to get things done.

I like bars. I’m generally pretty jolly. And for a few weeks each year, I like pumpkins. So I’m happy to hear that The Brickyard is getting a new neighbor. The Jolly Pumpkin is opening a Main Street location within the next couple of months. Can’t wait to try it out and update the arborwiki article.

According to AnnArbor.com:

The owner of the prize-winning brewery based in Dexter sought a location in Ann Arbor for three years, but rents had fallen recently allowing the Main Street space to become affordable.

The Art Fair is pretty quiet around 8:00 am, at least when I look out the Brickyard’s front door. Early-bird vendors are just starting to roll up the flaps on their tents and patrons are still a couple hours from initial density. I got in a little earlier today, so the photos vary from those that I posted on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Wednesday Art Fair Time Lapse

The Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair officially opens for business today. Yesterday we shared photos of the set-up process that happened right outside our front door. (Update: Thursday Photos, Friday Photos)

Today’s “time lapse” photos cover the first day of the fair as visible from the Brickyard’s front entrance. The weather report calls for storms and nastiness.

By the way, the nearest tent in the picture above is for our office neighbor C.W. Petersen Jewelry. They do good work, and if my wife is really good I’ll get her something from there someday.

Lots of people milling about at noon today, mostly looking for lunch. Bill, Ross and I ventured into the unruly masses and emerged with lunch from Smokehouse Blues BBQ. Happiness, thy name is pulled pork (for a southerner like me).

The rain has come and gone, and people are back as of 5:00 pm today. The humidity was killer, and within the span of one block I witnessed two elderly people receiving medical attention. The view from our front door, however, indicates that most people are still enjoying themselves.

Ann Arbor Art Fair Time Lapse

The Ann Arbor Art Fair (ArborWiki article) begins tomorrow and much of the action takes place right outside our front door (just south of Liberty on Main Street). Set-up has already begun: streets are closed to traffic, organizers are setting up the tents and early bird vendors are unloading their wares.

Because we are going to be here all week (and likely visiting the fair this weekend), I plan to post a series of “time lapse” photos taken from just outside The Brickyard’s front door. It may or may not be interesting to anybody else, but at the very least we can share our perspective.

The set-up teams have been replaced by the vendors, now jostling for space and ever-important visibility (hey, kind of reminds me of search engine optimization!) I overheard several conversations that can only be described as “territorial disputes”, possibly resulting from a artisan land grab. These pics are from 1:15 this afternoon:
